New Zealand's billion dollar log export trade has been seen as providing a much-needed economic boost for the country. This article highlights the real costs involved in sending raw logs offshore instead of processing them in New Zealand. It quotes Jon Dey, from Forme Consulting Group, which recently announced a processing joint venture in China, along with Rens Bosman, of log exporting company NZ Wood Fibre Ltd, and a Russian expert on the China log trade.
